Creativity
New media has opened up a new wave of creativity in people because of the resources and platforms now available. We are now seeing art, music, entertainment, etc. in ways we've never seen before due to new technologies and the ease of sharing things we like with our friends. One of the biggest creative trends in the last decade has been the creation of memes, which are basically images, usually attached with a funny caption, that go viral. Sometimes they make sense, sometimes they don't. Whether they do or not doesn't really matter, what matters is that it makes people laugh or it's relatable in some way.
Before the birth of memes, there were ridiculously funny or stupid Youtube videos. One of the greatest eras of Youtube was when people would randomly remix children's songs or TV shows using hip hop beats (see The Little Einstein's Remix). Or even before that time, Brooks Barns tells of an instance when someone mashed up clips of Disney characters and made them to look like they were rapping to Soulja Boy's "Crank That" in their article Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why? This article shows a clear example of people using (newly) accessible audio and images to create a new type of entertainment.
