P2P
The Oxford Dictionary definition of file sharing is "The practice of making computer files available to other users of a network, in particular the illicit sharing of music and video via the Internet." P2P file sharing is peer-to-peer file sharing, with the peers being computer networks that are connected by the Internet.
One of the most well known examples of P2P file sharing is downloading pirated music -- Limewire was a very popular service in the 2000s that many people used to download music that you would normally have to pay for on iTunes or other music services.
Another example of P2P file sharing is pirating TV and movies -- the largest pirating site was PirateBay until they were charged with copyright infringement. This "digital theft" makes it extremely easy for people to stream movies still in theaters or TV shows that are still on TV, but this results in huge losses for the studios making the content. According to Brian Stelter and Brad Stone's article Digital Pirates Winning Battle with Studios, "illegal downloads and streams are now responsible for about 40 percent of the recenue the industry loses annually as a result of piracy."
